This article answers some frequently asked questions about the setup and management of the free trial of Microsoft Sustainability Manager.

How do I start to use the trial?
The trial includes product guided tours that highlight important scenarios that you can try in the app to get the most value in the shortest time. Open the Home page in the app, and then use the product tours to explore the app. After you understand how the core capabilities are connected to offer value, you can try the scenarios by using either sample data or your own customer data. During the trial, you can use the configuration guide to enable the app with your own data. It also shows you how to configure the app. Follow the guided configuration process and take advantage of learning assets for each step, such as step-by-step procedures, glossary, documentation, and more.
How do I access the configuration guide?
You can access the configuration guide through the Home page under the Analytics sitemap. Just select Open configuration guide in the banner at the top. If you dismiss this banner, you can access the guide by selecting the book symbol in the upper right of the page.
Is the configuration guide available only for trials?
No. The configuration guide is a feature that's available throughout the life of your solution. You can also use it to configure the paid solution with your own data. It also provides guidance to help you set up new capabilities when available.
I hid the product tours. How can I bring them back?
Select the Settings sitemap, and then open Startup settings page. There, you can enable the product tours.
What features are available in the trial?
The trial includes important capabilities to help you quickly get started.
The capabilities of Microsoft Sustainability Manager help you perform the following tasks:
Record your activity, and calculate emissions.
You can easily connect to your data and generate powerful calculations. By using the power of the Common Data Model, you can aggregate your operational data and holistically record the impact of your operations and value chain. You start by linking to an emission source. You can then either select a predefined calculation model or define your own.
Report your emissions.
Reliable analytics and reports help you make sound decisions. You can visualize your impact and generate actionable reports that meet strict public reporting requirements. Analytics tell the story about where your company is today and give your leaders the insight that they require to determine next steps.
Reduce your environmental impact by using meaningful scorecards.
By using your detailed reports and analytics, you can set goals and review your progress. You can design the scorecards that you require to help your stakeholders understand trends, progress, and opportunities for improvement.
How long does the trial last?
The trial lasts 30 days. You can extend the trial once, as explained in the How do I extend the trial? section.
How do I remove sample data from the trial?
Sample data is preinstalled in the trial to help you learn to use the app and explore its capabilities. You can remove this data. However, if you want it again later, you need to delete your current free trial of Microsoft Sustainability Manager and start over with a new one. The new trial is fully reset to its original settings. For more information about how to delete your current trial, see Delete environment.
To remove sample data, follow these steps.
- In Microsoft Sustainability Manager, select the Settings sitemap, and then open the Startup settings page.
- Select Remove data.
- Confirm that you want to remove the sample data. The removal process takes several minutes.
How do I restore sample data?
Restoration of sample data isn't currently supported.

What are the system requirements for the trial?
This app is a cloud-based service that doesn't require special software except an up-to-date web browser. However, some restrictions apply. For the best trial experience, avoid accessing the trial site in incognito mode. Learn more about web application requirements.
How do I sign up for the trial without a Microsoft 365 tenant?
To sign up for Microsoft Sustainability Manager, you must use a work or school email address. If you don't have a work or school email address, or if your school or work account isn't managed by Microsoft Entra ID, sign up for a free Microsoft 365 trial, and then use the email address that is associated with your Microsoft 365 trial to sign up for Microsoft Sustainability Manager.
Can I sign up for multiple Dynamics 365 apps, such as Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service?
Yes, you can. To view all available trials, visit the trial hub page. You can use the same email account to sign up for different trials. However, you can't have multiple apps on the same trial site. Each trial will be on a different organization and URL. The trial data won't be shared across apps.
Trial app
I didn't receive the trial details email after I signed up. What should I do?
When you sign up for the trial, you will receive an email that includes the trial details. If you don't see the email in your inbox, check your spam folder. Alternatively, follow these steps to access your app.
- Go to the trial site, and select Try for free.
- Enter the email ID that you used to sign up for the trial. You're redirected to your trial app.
How do I add more users to a trial?
To add users, go to the Microsoft 365 admin center by using the trial admin account. Follow the admin center guidance to add users up to the trial license limit. If the user that you're adding already has a Microsoft 365 account, assign them an appropriate security role in the trial organization. For more information, see Assign a security role to a user.
How many users can I add to my trial environment?
You can add an unlimited number of users to the trial environment.
How do I reset the trial environment?
You can't reset the trial environment. However, you can wait for the trial period to end and then sign up for a new trial.
Trial expiration and extension
Why did my trial expire before the end of the trial period?
The trial expires if there is no activity for 14 consecutive days. An email notification is sent to you after seven days of inactivity. Expired trials can't be reactivated. However, you can start a new trial.
How do I extend the trial?
You can extend the trial for another trial period in the admin center. For instructions, see Extend your trial. You can extend your trial once.
Can I convert the trial to a paid license?
You can buy Microsoft Sustainability Manager as part of an Enterprise Agreement (EA). Contact your Microsoft account executive to buy Microsoft Sustainability Manager. It's also available through your cloud solution provider (CSP).
What are the trial limits and quotas?
In the trial version, Microsoft Sustainability Manager can be used only for learning and exploration purposes.
