How to get started at Luis.ai (Language Understanding)?

How can I register at Luis.ai? In order to try it out through some of the prebuilt domains available for Luis?

It should be pretty simple, I thought.

After a couple hours of research I found that I need to head to https://portal.azure.com/, create an account, specify my CC details etc, Add a new resource, (Language Understanding), now I have an Authoring Resource and Resource Group ready to be used at Luis.ai.

There are two options to continue from this point, 1) Use Existing Authoring Resource 2) Continue using your trial key.

2 does noithing, 1) Allows me further 2 options.

1.1. Use Existing Authoring Resource.
1.2. Create new Authoring Resource.

Both, 1.1. by selecting the Authoring Resource and Resource Group created previously. and 1.2. end up on the same error message:

Migration of your account has failed. Here is a list of possible reasons why:
You created a resource using an invalid account name.
Your role lacks sufficient permissions to create Azure resources on your Azure subscription.

Can anyone help me decipher what's the way of getting over the first screen in order to use Language Understanding?

@Anonymous Are you using the same email id to login to the LUIS portal as Azure portal? Please check on the top right hand side corner of LUIS portal if you have selected the right tenant and directory. The resources created in Azure portal should be visible in your settings as available authoring resources for your app.

The error seems to indicate the authoring key is incorrect with the selected tenant. You can also create a new resource directly from LUIS portal and proceed further before deleting the previous resource created from Azure portal.

This appears to be a broader issue as I'm also facing the same problem; the documentation on MS Learn is being followed to the letter also.

The trial, isn't working - have tried this in Edge/IE/Chrome/Firefox/Safari.

Hi @romungi-MSFT Yes, using the same email on both and the single directory, Actually tried a new fresh account as well to discard an issue with the account, and my "Resource group" as well as "Authoring Group" show correctly on the "Use Existing Authoring Resource" popup.

Creating a new resource directly from LUIS would make sense, but I can't proceed past this screen.

Is it just the trial what's not working?
I'd actually upgrade if it was needed to get it working.

I've just tried it using the Europe LUIS service and it is working now for me; not sure if there's some geography checking taking place under the covers or if there's an issue with just the US LUIS service. You could try Europe.

@Anonymous Do you see a similar behavior with https://previous.luis.ai/ portal? This is our older experience portal but essentially lists the same resources from a subscription.

I am having the same problem. I cannot create a new service from Europe, US or with the previous.luis.ai.
Any status on what the problem is?

Unfortunately not, my joy was short lived; I tried clicking the “Continue” button and it just sat there; under the covers of the page there looked to be several errors.

I’m not at my laptop at the moment, but I’ll try again and see if I can capture them to attach to this.

You can try yourself though, by using the right-click|Inspect option. Think it was under console - with info, warnings, and errors selected.

Be interesting to see if you have similar errors Neal.

Hi @romungi-MSFT I'm having the same problem and Just tried the "previous" portal.

Still having problems. After trying to register I get this message "A server error occured. Please refresh the page and try again. "

Yes, same behavior, the UI notifies the error, which is an improvement, but the underlying REST api calls still fail. Thanks for the effort though @romungi-MSFT

Thanks for the suggestion, but It ended up in the same result. The termsofuse api call fails.

Thank you for the update, I see the UI/Portal has been revamped.

I’ve been able to create my App now, hope everyone else can too.

I’m not sure if the documentation will reflect the new screens, something to be aware of as they’re totally different in presentation and colour to what was there before and the screenshots captured in the original issue.

To point out, this problem occurs when you use wrong luis.ai site. So when I have my Azure Language Understanding Authoring resource in West Europe and I accidentally used https://luis.ai site, this error occurred. But when I went to https://eu.luis.ai everything works fine. So check that your Cognitive Services resource's Resource Location matches the luis.ai portal you use! https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cognitive-services/luis/luis-reference-regions

Thanks for the support, I gave up on the LUIS service for my project at hand.

Once the tool is more mature in the future, I'll try it out again for other projects.

@Anonymous We apologize for the inconvenience that has caused the portal to fail. However our team has confirmed that we had a deployment issue that caused this and this is now fixed. Could you please try the scenarios again and check if it is successful?
