Remote server returned '550 5.7.520 Message blocked because it contains content identified as spam. AS(4810)' Today i have received an email returned as spam. This was from an addressee who I correspond mostly, being a family member and I was sending them an important document. Both of these are Microsoft accounts (Hotmail and Outlook), both accounts are listed under my family 365 account, both using Microsoft Outlook and no other system for sending and receiving emails. Can you tell me why this is the case and how I am able to stop this in the future?

Both were not delivered to the respective recipients till today so the glitch must have started two days ago. The same problem has been posted elsewhere on this forum where the person shared the email message which showed that it was also initially send on April 6. Also, both my messages had nothing in there that may have looked like spam. Hope it will be addressed soon.

On a different computer my wife is having the same issue, outlook.com account, using Microsoft Office 365 Outlook app. The message is not spam. Must have been a MS change somewhere late Thursday, the 6th of April.

Issue started 2 days ago specifically Apr 6 6pm-11pm PST, unable to send outgoing emails from an iPad device. Incoming emails are OK. I sent a test email 2 days ago to my O365 Business email which was plaintext, no attachment and today Apr 8 at 1AM PST, I received the ******@outlook.com Undeliverable email bounceback. Email was sent from the official Microsoft Outlook app. I sent a similar test email 2 days ago from my O365 Business account from the same MS Outlook app, and I received the message instantly. Interesting bit - while I was having this issue 2 days ago, hence I tried sending email from my laptop device through the internet browser Outlook.com, and that went through. Both devices were connected to the same home network. Another interesting bit, my O365 Business account tagged the received emails (which ******@outlook.com marked as undelivered, but were still sent through today - 2 days later) as coming from Unverified Sender - which is wrong because the email was sent from a legit source - me. My current findings indicate the that issue impacted O365 Family users, and potentially specific to Mobile devices. Can others share your experience?

The delivery time between these servers was 2545 minutes 36 seconds. A message that was returned as "undeliverable" was eventually delivered to the receiver.

None of the content was even remotely spam. I had no attachments. It happens when I send messages from my Windows 11 computer and from my iPhone so it isn't malware. I use Outlook mail. Is it possible that my email account has been blocked?

2023-04-08T18:30:03.4+00:00 As a follow up, it appears 3 out of 4 rejected sent emails actually went through. Based on response from recipients, they didn't show to recipients until sometime this morning although the time stamp retained the original sent/received date and time of thursday....strange (!). With all the responses to this post, this seems to be a pervasive problem that showed up in the last 2 or 3 days. Coincidentally I had installed Zoom plug-in on tuesday, which I disabled this morning. Not sure if that was related to my problem.

Is Microsoft now aware? Will these emails be delivered or will we have to manually resend all of the emails from the past 2-3 days???

I sent a very important email on Thursday April 6/23 and it was returned on Saturday April 8/23 with Remote server returned '550 5.7.520 Message blocked because it contains content identified as spam. AS(4810)' Does this mean that on Thursday the recipient didn't get it? Do I need to resend?!?!?

There were three "Undeliverable" notifications that went straight to my Spam folder. However, I do not recall, nor do I have record of sending any emails to the recipients in my screenshot.
I am a subscriber to MS 365 Personal....Malwarebytes premium is installed on my device with an active subscription. The Undeliverable notifications were sent on 4/8/23 but their corresponding emails are dated 4/6/23. Why did the bounce back take 2 days to receive? Undelverable notification.pdf

2023-05-10T18:18:27.1733333+00:00 I have been using Hotmail/Outlook for the better part of 25 years, and I'm about to switch entirely to Gmail because of this issue. I don't know where I would look, but it doesn't appear that Microsoft is acknowledging it or working on it. I have a TON of spam messages hitting my inbox now, and my outbound messages are getting rejected even when sent to people I communicate with all the time. When the service ceases to be usable, it's time to go.
Anyone at Microsoft have a response?

2023-06-10T16:56:04.2033333+00:00 I have this same annoying problem happening to me sporadically with my MSN account. Emails bounce back with this 'blocked' message and they don't have any "spammy" content or attachments. Today I tried resending a message that had bounced without changing any of the text that I originally sent - I just changed from RTF (Rich Text) to Plain Text format and it was delivered. So try that as a workaround the next time it happens to you. I am using Outlook 2021 and it seems to be associated with that. Outlook 2021 is very buggy. Cheers, Gina

I get this same issue after the modem / wifi was updated to a new one. I can send attached emails through a phone that is not connected to wifi, but devices on wifi cannot send these.
If I send an attached email to myself, from Outlook to Outlook, it classifies it as spam. If I send from Gmail to Outlook, the messages come through. Messages without attachments will get through.

Was fine this morning. still able to send and forward. It happened all suddenly at noon today. I was able to send an plain email without attachment though. But that won't help for important emails.

Can send emails without attachments no problem. If I add attachments, emails are rejected as spam. This is happening with multiple email addresses. So cant be an external issue. Come on microsoft! I am trying to run a business here. What good is your service if it doesnt work. Tried sending email attachment as onedrive links, but end user needs a microsoft account to access them! What sort of rubbish is this? Are you not meant to leaders in this field? Just about to take business over to gmail!

I hope Microsoft will solve the issue and not recommend people to change email setting.
I didn't touch setting and i am sending email to the same addresses that i send everyday and never had this problem.

Can you confirm your problem occurred on outlook.com or the new Outlook app (which is essentially a wrapper of the outlook.com webapp)?

Try resending the message that got hit with this as Plain Text (that will remove all links and URLs). I am using Outlook 2021 and an MSN account that have been seeing his issue occasionally. Re-sending the 'blocked' message in Plain Text format (not HTML or RTF) will usually get it to go through.

My workaround is to compress all pdf files as zip and I can send the emails that way.

It's certainly the attachment on my end as I can send emails out without the attachment and they are received.
Running a business it's incredibly frustrating trying to find a workaround.

Load your mobile app and send it from the drafts folder on your phone, works for me how I don't know but until this gets resolved it's the only way I can send emails with PDF attachments.

We started to have the same issue today. It seems to be related to an Hotmail account trying to send an email to one of our Exchange 2019 server mailboxes. It does not even go in the account's "spam" folder. It is directly rejected.
Since we handle a mail server that mostly receives emails with attachments sent by our customers in order to be further processed, this is a priority concern for us. The email feature is a central part of our sotware solution and all of our customers rely on this feature. A lot of them use Outlook mailboxes to send their attachments.
We hope that Microsoft will quickly resolve this.

I know it's not the best solution, but if you have your email on your phone, once you send it from your desktop, you can go into your sent folder on your phone and forward it to your recipient from there and it will go through without being rejected. I have had to do that with every email today that has a PDF attached. Thank goodness business is slow today!

I had a call in some minute from tech support, but that support guy told me, he is not able to hear me and hang out the call. Currently i am not able to sign in that support portal to review my opened ticket. I noticed that their web pages sometimes don't work as well. Sometimes i have some error as you don't have a permission when I want to visit some support page or MS main page. I think the rollup some update to non-business customer, and I hope they are working on fix.

My workaround: Write your e-mail with attachments on Outlook Web, save draft.
Go to your smartphone and send through the Outlook Mobile app.

For me it happens every time from using MS Outlook I set up a meeting between me (outlook.com address) and a family member (outlook.com address with same surname). So they really can't complain its a 3rd party.

Then I noticed that where I had copied and pasted the recipient email address from another email, I had copied the whole line including the 'To:'. So, for example, 'To: John Smith' as oppose to just 'John Smith'.
Looking back at the messages that refused to be sent, the recipient was incorrectly 'To: To: John Smith'. Therefore, I simply copied and pasted the correct email address as 'John Smith' and hey presto the problem was solved!
