Server Configuration How-to Topics
The default settings for server components allow you to run an instance of Microsoft SQL Server immediately after installation. In most cases, you do not need to reconfigure the server. However, server management is necessary in those situations where you want to set up special server configurations, change the network connections, or set server configuration options to improve SQL Server performance.
Server properties can be managed from SQL Server Management Studio, and SQL Server Configuration Manager. Many properties are read-only. Some server properties can only be changed using the correct tool. Some server properties require a restart of SQL Server before they will take effect.
