How to Create Pricing Rules

This topic describes how to add existing items to a virtual catalog. You use the Add an Existing Virtual Catalog Item Wizard to define existing item inclusions, exclusions, and pricing rules in an existing virtual catalog. An item can be a base catalog, a category, a product, or a product variant.

You can start the Add an Existing Virtual Catalog Item Wizard from the last page of the Create a New Virtual Catalog Wizard, or you can start it from the Task pane in Catalog Manager. The following procedures show you how to start the wizard from the Task pane.

To start the Add an Existing Virtual Catalog Item Wizard

  1. Click Start, point to Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 , and then click Catalog Manager.

  2. In Commerce Server Catalog Manager, in the Views pane, click Catalogs.

  3. In the Catalogs pane, select the virtual catalog to which you want to add existing items, and then in the Task pane, click Add an Existing Item.

  4. On the Welcome to the Add an Existing Virtual Catalog Item Wizard page, click Next.

To select the item you want to add to the virtual catalog

  1. On the Item Selection page, click Browse to open the Product Picker dialog box. You use the Product Picker dialog box to find the category, product, or product variant you want to add to the virtual catalog.

  2. In the Product Picker dialog box search for the item(s) you want for the association.

  3. In the Results pane select the item(s) you want to add to the virtual catalog, and then click OK.

  4. If you want to add a base catalog instead of a category, product, or product variants, on the Item Selection page, under Select a Catalog, select the name of the base catalog you want to add.

  5. Click Next.

To select the rule type you want to add for the virtual catalog

  1. On the Rule Properties page, do the following:

    Select the type of rule you want to add. The following options are available:

    • Include. Select this rule to include items such as a product, product variant, or a category in the virtual catalog from the drop-down list.

    • Exclude. Select this rule to exclude items such as a product, product variant, or category from the virtual catalog from the drop-down list.

    • Pricing. Select this rule type to apply a pricing rule, such as a discount-pricing rule to the virtual catalog item from the drop-down list.

      You must make sure that the items already exist in your virtual catalog before applying the pricing rules. These items are not automatically included.

    Pricing Rule Type

    This box is available only if you chose Pricing in the Rule Type box.

    Select the pricing rule typefrom the drop-down list. The following options are available:

    • Set Price. Sets the price for the item.

    • Add. Adds the additional price to the regular item price.

    • Add Percentage. Adds a percentage to the regular item price.

    • Discount. Subtracts a discount price from the regular item price.

    • Discount Percentage. Subtracts a discount percentage from the regular item price.

    • No Change. No price change.

    Price Amount

    Type the price amount for the option that you selected in the Pricing Rule Type box.

  2. Click Create.

To rebuild the virtual catalog and complete the Add an Existing Virtual Catalog Item Wizard

  1. On the Completing the Add Existing Virtual Catalog Item Wizard page, if you want to rebuild the virtual catalog at this point, select the Rebuild Virtual Catalog check box.

  2. On the Completing the Add Existing Virtual Catalog Item Wizard page, click Finish.
