Import Options Page

Use the Import options page to select the site for which you want to import data, and the type of data to import into the Data Warehouse for that site.

To do this

Commerce Server Site

From the drop-down list, select the site whose data that you want to import.

Web server logs

Select to import Web log file data generated by the Web site. You obtain Web log file data when users visit your site and then click links to site pages. Some of the data imported into the Data Warehouse from a Web log file includes, for example:

  • The length of time a user spent visiting the Web site.

  • The referring site from which a user accessed the Web site.

  • The ads users clicked when they visited the Web site.

  • The ads served to a user who was visiting the Web site.

  • The number of users to whom an ad was served.

The Web log files must be in the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) extended Web log file format. If you are importing Apache or Lotus log files, you must convert them to the W3C extended Web log file format before you can import them.

Resolve IP addresses

Select to convert IP addresses, imported from your log files, into domain names. For example, 198.105.232.4 becomes www.microsoft.com. This helps the readers of your reports more easily understand the data in the reports.

Product catalog

Select to import data about the products in your Commerce Server catalog database that includes dimensional information such as product name, description, color, and size.

For reports such as Product Analysis and Transaction Analysis to display correctly, catalog data is required. If Commerce Server does not import catalog data into the Data Warehouse, products are identified in reports by their stock-keeping unit (SKU) numbers only.

Transactions

Select to import transaction data that includes purchase orders and requisition numbers. You use this data in analysis reports to determine how well individual products are selling, how much customers are requisitioning, or how much the users are purchasing.

Profiles

Select to import profile data such as user name, address, and date registered.

Campaigns

Select to import marketing campaign information such as advertisers, campaigns, and campaign item data.

Each of these import options corresponds to a Commerce Server Data Transformation Services (DTS)task. If you want, you can manually configure each of these DTS tasks instead of using the Data Warehouse Import Wizard. For more information, see Running the DTS Tasks.
