How to Install Windows® XP Embedded Service Pack 2 Feature Pack 2007

Before you can install Windows® XP Embedded Service Pack 2 Feature Pack 2007, you must have Windows XP Embedded with Service Pack 2 installed on your computer.

To track your progress in the following table, select the check box next to each step.

1. Before you install FP 2007, back up your existing component database and repository. Backing Up the Component Database
2. You can back up the repository by using the Backup program that is provided with Windows XP Professional, or by using a third-party backup utility. The repository is quite large, so if you are backing up to removable media, it may require multiple discs. Backing Up the Repository
3. Install the updated Windows® Embedded Studio for Windows XP Embedded tools on your development computer. Installing the Development Tools Update
4. Install the updated component database and repositories on the computer that you use as your database server.
Note   When installing Windows XP Embedded on a computer running Windows Vista, use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 as the database. Download Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition from https://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/express/ or obtain a licensed copy of Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
Installing the Component Database Update
5. (Optional) Copy FBWF API Files to your development computer. This feature pack includes new components for file-based write filtering. If you are planning to manage File-Based Write Filter from your application using its public API, proceed with this step to copy the necessary files to your computer. Copying FBWF API Files
6. (Optional) Copy updated EWF API Files to your development computer. If you are planning to manage Enhanced Write Filter and Hibernate Once Resume Many (HORM) from your application using the new public API, proceed with this step to copy the necessary files to your computer Copying Updated EWF API Files
