Autodiscover Reference (POX) in Exchange 2010

Last modified: May 27, 2009

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007 | Exchange Server 2010

The Autodiscover service provides the configuration information necessary to create a connection to an Exchange server. The Autodiscover service provides a mechanism that allows you to use "plain old XML" (POX) messages — that is, messages that consist solely of XML payloads without any enclosing SOAP envelopes — to locate the settings that a client application must have in order to connect to Exchange.

Note

For Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and later versions, we recommend that you use the SOAP Autodiscover service instead of the POX Autodiscover service. For more information, see Working with Autodiscover in Exchange 2010.

This section provides examples and descriptions of the messages that are used to retrieve Autodiscover configuration information by using the Autodiscover service .
