Two new Visual FoxPro 9.0 case studies on microsoft.com

Microsoft has just released two new Visual FoxPro 9.0 case studies on the Customer Evidence web site to help highlight, promote, and market VFP 9.0 as a great developer tool for data-centric applications. There are just the first two in a series of upcoming VFP 9.0 based case studies to increase the awareness of VFP 9.0 and to be used by VFP developers to point to IT managers and decision makers who are considering to develop or continue to develop Visual FoxPro based solutions.

Primary Case Study Focus: Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0

Pal’s Sudden Service - Sysdine People Resource Management Software

Pal's Sudden Service developed extraordinarily effective people resource management processes, which in turn produced extraordinary results in growth, customer satisfaction, productivity, and turnover reduction. These processes are now incorporated in a software system called Sysdine, which utilizes Microsoft Visual FoxPro and Microsoft SQL Server. Pal's is the only restaurant company ever to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Crimestar - Scalable Law Enforcement Information System Exploits the Strengths of Visual FoxPro

The objective was to build a fast, flexible, and user-friendly solution for law enforcement that could be cost-effectively deployed in the smallest of towns while being capable of serving larger metropolitan organizations. Currently taking advantage of the data-centric capabilities of Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0, Crimestar Corporation has deployed its system to hundreds of law enforcement agencies, providing them with capabilities that were once unobtainable and benefiting millions of people in communities large and small.

The VFP 9.0 case study on Crimestar below was one the VFP team learned about late last year, as Calvin Hsia blogged about the letter from the Crimestar team thanking the VFP team. Since receiving that letter 9 months ago last October, the Crimestar has successfully upgraded to and deployed their solution using VFP 9.0. Here is the letter:

Dear Team Members,
Thank you for your hard work and dedication to Visual FoxPro. After returning from the VFP Devcon 2004 in Las Vegas, where much time was spent discussing version 9.0,1 have no doubt that this new version will prove to be the best and most feature rich release of the product to date. Having had the chance to meet many of you, it is clear that you have a continued enthusiasm about the product which is largely responsible for it being such a great tool for developers!
As a solution provider to the law enforcement market, VFP as proven to be a phenomenally powerful and invaluable development tool for providing a flexible, feature rich and scalable solution to our customers. With over 400 law enforcement agencies currently using our product, in 45 states, millions of Americans are being well served and protected in their respective communities by Crimestar's VFP based information management solutions. Whether implemented using a native FoxPro Database or MS SQL Server, there is no doubt that your team's hard work and dedication to VFP has made it possible for Crimestar to succeed in providing our solution to communities large and small across America.
Visual FoxPro has always been and continues to be a superior development tool for building powerful data centric application and we in the VFP community have you to thank for that.
Thank you, and keep up the great work!
Alec Gagne, President Crimestar Corporation
