Agreement with Australian Indigenous Minorities Supply Council
This week Microsoft Australia signed a corporate membership agreement with Australian Indigenous Minorities Supply Council (AIMSC).
The signing ceremony took place between Natalie Walker, CEO of AIMSC and Microsoft Australia’s Managing Director, Tracey Fellows.
By signing the agreement, Microsoft seeks to actively contribute to a sustainable Indigenous enterprise sector and is proud to be one of the many organisations across Australia where diversity in the workplace and suppliers play an important role.
AIMSC provides a direct business-2-business purchasing link between corporate Australia, government agencies and Indigenous-owned businesses. Their mission is to contribute to the creation of a vibrant and prosperous Indigenous enterprise sector in Australia.
Microsoft Australia has a deep and longstanding commitment promoting indigenous employment. Other employment related initiatives include: supporting the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) through a grant for the development and implementation of an IT program; being a signatory to the Australian Government’s Corporate Leaders for Indigenous Employment Project; supporting of the RISE initiative - launched by Yarnteen, a program that aims to increase the skill capacity of Aboriginal entrepreneurs through practical and tailor-made IT business training, and mentoring; and working with Career Trackers to provide indigenous internship opportunities at Microsoft Australia.

Great to see another initiative to provide employment for indigenous Aussies. I want it to continue. However with the 2013 referendum on recognising indigenous Australians in the Constitution not far off there needs to be a huge parallel effort on building a lasting positive respect between indigenous and non-indigenous Aussies. I mean a level of respect that leaves indigenous Aussies in no doubt that they are revered as the spiritual heart of this beautiful but harsh land of Australia.
