Create a COM+ partition set in Active Directory

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To create a COM+ partition set in Active Directory

  1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. On the View menu, select Advanced Features.

  3. In the console tree, right-click ComPartitionSets, and then click New Partition Set.

    Where?

    • Active Directory Users and Computers/domain node/System/ComPartitionSets
  4. Under Name and Description, type the name and description of the new partition set, and then click Next.

  5. On the Configure Partitions for New Set page, click the partitions that you want to include in the partition set, click Add, and then click Next.

  6. On the Configure Users for New Set page, click Add User and Add Org Unit to add the users and organizational units that are to be mapped to the partition set, and then click Finish.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group or the Enterprise Admins group in Active Directory, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure. For more information, see Default local groups, Default groups, and Using Run as.

  • To open Active Directory Users and Computers, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Active Directory Users and Computers.

  • By using COM+ partition sets, you can associate multiple users or organizational units with a COM+ partition set at one time instead of having to map multiple user identities or organizational units. A COM+ partition set is available to users or organizational units that are mapped to it.

  • When creating a new COM+ partition set, a partition ID is automatically generated and displayed under Partition Set ID in the Properties dialog box. If you want to specify a different GUID for the new COM+ partition set, delete the existing partition ID and type a new one.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
