Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0 (ACT)

The Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT 5.0) helps IT managers find all the software running on user computers within their environment and then figure out which of those applications will have problems running in Vista.

Having an inventory of all the software within an IT environment is tough and asking a user what they are running on their system isn't likely to produce an accurate picture.  This is where ACT can help.  By monitoring multiple systems over a period of time you decide, it builds up a true picture of the applications running on a user's machine.

What's more is that you can do this centrally on all the computers on your network and reports can be sent back periodically or at the end of the testing period.

Each application will be tested for Vista compatibility on the fly, so not only will you end up with a detailed software inventory list but you'll learn which apps need patching or updating in order to run Vista.

This is where the Microsoft Compatibility Exchange comes in handy.  This is a community where organisations all around the world share compatibility information and problem resolutions with other IT managers.  If you have a problem application, chances are that someone else out there has experienced the same problem and shared the resolution so you can follow their path of success.
