  • Conscientious work habits and ascribe to culturally defined norms
  • Maintain neat homes, buy conventional furnishings
  • Do own repairs
  • Avoid ostentatious styles

LOWER-UPPER CLASS The Lower-Upper Class consists of about 2% of the population and is characterized by:

  • High incomes or wealth earned through exceptional business or professional practices
  • Socially active lifestyles
  • Purchase status products
  • Consumption pattern designed to impress classes above and below them
  • Primary ambition is to be accepted by Upper-Upper Class

UPPER-LOWER CLASS The Upper-Lower Class comprises about 35% of the population and is characterized by:

  • Blue collar skills and trades
  • Seek respectability and security
  • 'Macho' self-image for males
  • Heavy smoker
  • Beer drinker
  • Wives spend most time cooking, cleaning, caring for children
  • Little time for social activities or organizations

UPPER-MIDDLE CLASS The Upper-Middle Class comprises about 12% of the population and is characterized by:

  • Professional or independent business professions
  • Possess neither family status or unusual wealth
  • Primarily concerned with careers and family
  • Civic-minder joiners
  • Entertain friends and clients at home
  • Quality market for clothes, homes, furniture, appliances and vacations

UPPER-UPPER CLASS The Upper-Upper Class comprises less than 1% of the population and is characterized by:

  • Being of the socially elite
  • Having inherited wealth
  • Well-known family names or backgrounds
  • Donate large sums to charity
  • Maintain more than one home
  • Send children to best schools
  • Buy and dress conservatively
  • Spend lavishly on jewelry
  • Reference group for imitation by other social classes
