enBase entity from which all ESG Data Model entities are derived.
enThe Product Environmental Footprint is the representative environmental footprint of a product considering supply chain inputs and production processes, blended across the facilities in the organization where the product is produced or distributed. Product is a concept rather than a tangible, physical object. It's a representation of one or more tangible items (or item variants) that correspond to the product. For example, a product may be a given model of bicycle. It's available in red or blue in different frame sizes. Each combination of size and color is an item. Therefore, the footprint of the product is a representation of the averaged item footprint distribution.

It's based on Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) calculation practices, which usually incorporate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

A product environmental footprint (PEF) is a method for measuring the environmental impacts of a product or service throughout its life cycle . It's based on a multi-criteria approach that takes into account the supply and demand of goods and services for the planet . The aim of the PEF is to improve the validity and comparability of the environmental performance evaluation of different products and services.

One of the most widely used methods is the life cycle assessment (LCA), which measures the environmental impacts of a product or service from the extraction of resources to the disposal or recycling of the product. LCA covers multiple impact categories, such as climate change, water use, land use, and toxicity. To conduct an LCA, you need to collect data on the inputs and outputs of each life cycle stage of the product.
