Archiving Server is a server role in Office Communications Server. Archiving Server provides a solution for archiving the content of instant messages (IM) sent in Office Communications Server for compliance purposes. For details about what Archiving Server does, see Archiving and Compliance in the Planning and Architecture documentation.
Depending on the archiving configuration, and compliance needs of your deployment, you might deploy Archiving Server on one or many computers. The deployment procedures in this documentation apply to each Archiving Server that you deploy.
