Hi all,
Am I missing something totally obvious here or have Microsoft been totally obtuse in how they handle profiles in their own web browser?
Here's my setup:
- Windows 11 PC: My own work account signed-in to Windows (seems I can't sign-out from this either so being pushed down/enforced by GPO/Azure AD policy - no idea, no access)
- MS Edge: Multiple profiles, signed-in with the admin accounts I have for various customer tenants which I administer as their MSP
For love nor money, I cannot switch to a separate profile in the browser and have the M365 portal sign in with the account associated with that profile. It will REPEATEDLY default to the one signed-in to Windows itself and even if I logout, close the window, open a new one (under the correct, different profile) and login with the correct one, when I try to launch the Exchange Admin Centre (for example) I am presented with a page from my employer's tenant - not the customer one.
This is doing my head in. Microsoft have pushed this browser on us, it supports 365 accounts as seperate profiles and yet doesn't seem to support this basic functionality in a way that's simple and not incredibly time consuming.
Is there something I'm missing or has my company configured something in GPO (which I'd need to ask the question regarding, I have no access to confirm that personally) which is enforcing this and creating the issue for me?
Please help! Before I lose it entirely!

Murray Niebling 11 Reputation points2022-03-21T01:00:27.347+00:00 I think I am starting to lose my mind as well. Are you trying to set up separate browser sessions for each of your M365 Portals/Tenancies?
I am also finding that Windows 11 doesn't allow Multiple Sessions of the same application to have their own Icon but rather Groups them together.
I haven't found solutions to either of these issues yet.

I think MS doesn't allow to have two or more work accounts with Office 365 accounts.

Seth Randall 0 Reputation points2024-02-29T22:53:48.1366667+00:00 I just experienced this myself. In Profile Preferences there are now a bunch of options for Automatic profile switching. I have disabled all of them and now my profiles are behaving as I expect.

I cannot for the life of me, get Edge to stop using my "signed in to this computer" account even after switching off automatic profile switching.
I too, use Edge profiles to manage Microsoft 365 client tenants. I choose create new work/school profile. I signed in using the new Microsoft 365 tenant account. I go to admin.microsoft.com and I'm signed in automatically using the "signed in to this computer" account which is what I don't want. I want to be signed in using the work/school account I just signed in to instead. I can see sometimes, the choose which profile to sign in to appear and then disappear. How can I get that pop-up to stop disappearing? Or at least allow the first signed in account into the new profile to be persistent instead of signing me back in to my "signed in to this computer" account.

John Wooten 0 Reputation points2024-08-08T19:49:09.8266667+00:00 I'm also having this issue now, in 2024. What's odd is one PC is working fine. I set it up, everything works and it's great with three profiles and I use it every day. Trying to set this up for a user and it simply will not launch it's own window. A window launches, then it opens as a tab under my 'default' account. Disabling or enabling all of the different automatic switching options has no effect. In fact, if I enable notifications for automatic switching, it will tell me it did it and offer a button to switch profiles, but it just opens in the default profile again....very annoying. I tried the latest 128 beta to see if it was something that has been fixed, but had the same result.

If you use multiple Edge profiles, to avoid your profile sign-in from being high jacked by configured system default account sign-in and/or last account used disable the below options on each configured Edge profile in the profile settings.
