Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Microsoft Remote Desktop app? If not, kindly try to uninstall and reinstall it first. If it still doesn't resolve your concern, it is most likely that your phone is experiencing compatibility issues with the app. If that's the case, we recommend that you contact the original equipment manufacturer of your phone to verify if they support the Microsoft Remote Desktop app.
Let us know if you need further assistance with your concern.
.. Yes, I've done that multiple times.
I went a little deeper, and did a port forward on my router, then added it to the end of the IP address used on the RD Client app. Example (##.##.###.##:#####) Before the colon is the server IP, and after is the port.
Now It finds the machine. But again, it won't take my login credentials. Even the ones the Microsoft Remote Desktop assistant itself tells you to use... EDIT- Password issue with Win 10 upgrade. Ignore this.
- To at least get this far, access your router settings, and go to whatever section allows port forwarding.
- Call the App name whatever (I called it RDP).
- Make the external port 5 numbers of your choosing (this goes after colon when using the RD App)
- Internal port is 3389
- TCP Protocol
- Now enter the Device IP# (This is your computer's unique IP assigned by router. Find it under Network Connections < right click on connection < status < IPv4 Address.) You can follow instructions online to make it static so it doesn't change in the future.
- Enable the port forward.
Now if I can figure out what credentials to use, we can put this to bed.
EDIT- My credentials were wrong. I now have access and can use RD Client over the internet.
BTW, not relevant, but I feel the need to say this is so unnecessarily difficult compared to other RD options out there. All they ask for is to create an account, and install software on both ends. That's it.
I don't see why Microsoft can't invest in some way of allowing the connection to be based on other factors, like your unique MS ID, instead of messing about with ports. If you drop $100 for RD, you just want it to work instead of draining your time doing self-tech-support.
