try it with the firewall off. If it works, you need to reconfigure the firewall.

We are using Windows server 2003 sp2 & windows xp professional sp3. We would like to connect to the server using Remote Desktop, but we get the following error:
Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled.
We have enabled remote access on server & the user is member of admin & remote desktop users group on the server. The firewall is on & exception is allowed for Remote Desktop port 3389.
Could you please help us on this.

Hi ,
Look for event logs on both Terminal Server and Local User PC
Is this happening to all users ?
Search for that error message in google that might give you light.. !!

I am assuming that you are trying to vpn from home PC to work PC.
The most common reason for failure is that you machine at work is set to go to sleep after certain time.
To fix it go to power management on your machine at work and change from sleep after for example 15min to "never".
In Win 7 you would go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\change plan settings
It worked for me.
Also if you still fail, then do IP config on your work machine and see what is the IP address and use it instead of name of the host.
On the target machine I had to start "Remote Desktop Services" from Services under the Server Manger. It was running Windows Server 2008 R2.
Hi,
apply for remote PC................. Its so easy just remove IP (means PC take automatic IP) wait for 5 min and then apply your static IP's Issue resolved......
