A new program showed up on my computer with the latest Micro Soft upgrade called "windows shell experience host," two days ago.  It comes up in a window when I boot up, and wants me to allow it access.  Anyone ever heard of it?  It wants me to let it on my system, but my computer is blocking it like a virus.  You would think Micro Soft would alert us a new program is installing along with the upgrade.  Is it safe?  Should I allow it access?  Is it Micro Soft or an unknown hacker?  There is no disable, only an uninstall option.  Should I uninstall?  Where did it come from?

    Hi Alton

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Its a valid Windows system process which manages parts of the Windows desktop experience such as the Start menu.

    Open Start, type: CMD

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

Type in at the prompt OR Copy and Paste these one at a time : (Hit enter after each)

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Also run the System File Checker utility:

    Open Start, type: CMD

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

At the Command Prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any integrity violations

    Restart your system

Check your hard disk for any errors:

    Click Start

Type: CMD, from the results, right click Command prompt

    Click 'Run as Administrator'

At the Command Prompt, type: chkdsk /r /f

    Hit Enter

When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and attempts will be made to correct them.

If you continue to experience problems, I recommend perform a repair upgrade:

Download the Media Creation Tool Now

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209

Right click the MediaCreationTool.exe file then click Run as administrator.

Accept the End User License Agreement:

Select the option Upgrade this PC now if you want to upgrade right away,

    Click Next

Accept the End User License Agreement.

Wait while Windows 10 setup does one final check to ensure your system is ready.

Windows 10 setup will check if you have enough disk space.

Please note, you have the option of choosing what you would like to keep, which includes personal files, apps and settings.

If you want to perform a new install or just keep your files click Change what to keep. Once you have chosen the desired options, click Install to begin.

This will be your screen for a little while. During the installation, your computer will restart several times.

After the first restart, Windows 10 setup will resume. You will notice the setup experience has once again been refined from the previous animated circle. This will be your screen for a while. When complete, Windows 10 setup will restart automatically.

    Sign into your account.

Wait while Windows 10 completes application updates and post setup tasks.

That’s it, the Windows 10 Feature Update is installed. You can check Windows Update for latest updates, click Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for Updates.

How to prepare your computer before upgrading?

Although updating to Windows 10 version 1903 is a relatively simple process, similar to a repair upgrade; users should perform some basic pre-requisites before initiating the upgrade.

If you are finding it difficult to carry out some of the steps described below, please review detailed instructions how to perform them:

1st, it's Microsoft  no spaces are used..As for shell experience, try the Microsoft/TechNet link.

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Search/en-US?query=Shell%20experience&ac=5#refinementChanges=60,85&pageNumber=1&showMore=false

As with most pc software,a display for it gets installed by default, once it starts, edit, once it starts, open task mgr/Applications/R.click on it/open file location/delete it if you want, but follow the link to check its properties..

    Hi Alton

Windows Shell Experience Host, has been in Windows 10 since the beginning, it basically renders the user interface of the Windows 10 UWP applications (Photos, Movies and TV . . .etc.)

If you are seeing this at startup that is unusual and may indicate a problem on your system, can you please provide a screenshot of that popup you are seeing, so we can investigate this further . . .

I'd supply you a pop up if I knew how.  But, what I'm hearing is that Windows Shell Experience Host is part of MS and safe.  I suspect to remedy the pop up, all I have to do is click open, like it is asking me.

Man, that is a lot of commands.  But, aside from that, what you are saying is windows shell experience host is safe to run, and part of MS?  If so, seems like all I have to do is click allow, and I'll stop seeing the pop up.
