Windows 10 and Server 2003

I'm currently running a windows server 2003 r2 and my new laptops will not connect due to security is outdated on the server 2003.  Is there any workarounds for this issue or do i need to upgrade my server to be compatible with the new versions of windows 10. I have many other laptops with windows 10 that connect to the shared folders but they were not just bought in the last few months.

    You should update your unsupported server.

    To get your laptops to connect, you need to enable the insecure SMB1 on the laptops.

    Control Panel

    Programs and Features

    Turn Windows features on or off

    SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support

       Uncheck SMB 1.0/CIFS Automatic Removal

       Check SMB 1.0/CIFS Client

       Check SMB 1.0/CIFS Server (only if you need to see Win10 shares from an old OS)

    You should update your unsupported server.

    When you say connect what are you trying to do?  Join a 2003 domain, access a file share, remote desktop etc etc?

    Aside of that you really need to look at upgrading that server!  2003 is 2 and a half years out of support.  Bear in mind that 2008 R2 is now in extended support and goes EOL in 2020.  So I would seriously look at a major update.

    When i say trying to connect i mean connect to a shared folder hosted on our 2003 server.  I will try and get my boss to agree to an upgrade.  Thanks for all your help

    Are you saying you can't see the shares or can't connect to them?

    As a quick test, I tried to connect a Win10 machine to a Server2003 share in our lab and it works.

    Check the following settings

    Control Panel

    Network and Sharing Centre

    Advanced sharing settings

       Turn on network discovery

       Turn on file and printer sharing
