Add existing Azure VM to session host pool (Azure WVD)

Hello!

Is it possible to add existing VM to session host pool (Azure WVD)?

I cannot find reference documentation, but on the Microsoft Azure Documentation it states here the following:

"If you've already created virtual machines and want to use them with the new host pool, select No"

It doesn't state on how to add existing Azure VM to a new host pool.

Hello Everyone,
l
please follow below steps to add existing VM to Host pool, if you have removed the vm accidently from host pool

1.RDP into the existing VM you want to add to the host pool
2.uninstall the two agents (go to >app and features> select 1.remote desktop agent boot loader 2.remote desktop service infrastructure agent(this will unregister with old host pool or even if you want to add to same host pool this step is mandatory
3.Now install Azure Virtual Desktop Agent> apply the token
(link >https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/create-host-pools-powershell?tabs=azure-powershell#register-the-virtual-machines-to-the-windows-virtual-desktop-host-pool)
4.Now install Azure Virtual Desktop Agent Bootloader.

Thanks a lot - I just followed these steps to reassign a VM to hostpool after it was accidently removed from azure portal.

This method works.

@Rolaine Nicdao Apologies for delay in response since I was having discussion internally.

I got the below inputs from our internal team :

If you have existing VM’s and want to add them to a host pool, all you need to do is install the agents with the reg key for that host pool. You can ignore the rest of the article and just follow:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/create-host-pools-powershell#register-the-virtual-machines-to-the-windows-virtual-desktop-host-pool

I will work through that and report back with results.

Assuming that is correct, is there a chance the docs can get updated? As shown in the attached screenshot, a reference back to the Azure portal here and where the key is would help people in the future.

Hello Colleagues,

I have accidentally deleted one of my hosts from the host pool...

did the updating section on the previously pool-membered VM based on the guideline provided above

reboot

did the register section on the previously pool-membered VM based on the guideline provided above.

reboot

the VM still not appears in the pool. waited 1 hour, did a couple of reboots, no sign of the VM.

Any hint on how to join the VM to the pool? I don't want to redeploy it because I have it working just as before the delete.

I found this article to be super helpful (it seems to work for pools as well)

The key bits are this:
