I had the same problem as all of the others, it kept on asking for authentication from the same app. So, I went to log in at the Microsoft website > settings > security info > sign-up methods > phone number (text). Then, you'll have to log in again thru the authentication app back, click the "I don't have access to my authentication app", and use the phone number instead to get codes. Do the same thing for the Teams app on ur phone/web apps.
The Authenticator app is requesting a code from the app itself
I recently deleted the Microsoft Authenticator app by accident, and why I downloaded it again and tried to sign in it is asking for a code from the app itself. I use an institutional account from university and now I can’t activate or even log in to 365 because it ask for the code from the app. Someone please help me.

2023-10-13T15:28:08.14+00:00 Hello, I have the same problem and it is not working. My computer asks me to enter a code on my cell and my cell keeps asking me to enter the code on my authenticator, while I am on the authenticator. I cannot even add my account on the authenticator. This is beyond discouraging, 5 hours lost already. Any help is welcome. I do have full admin rights on the microsoft account for all users and I can reset passwords, but its clearly not working

2023-10-19T18:55:42.4833333+00:00 Hello! I am having the same problems that Michal is having with Microsoft Authenticator but on my business account, I cannot see to set up the business account in Authenticator, when I login on my desktop it asked me to open up the Authenticator app and input the code, but then I cannot add the Business account on the Authenticator successfully because it is asking for a code in the authenticator when I try to add the business account. The phone number listed on the account is no longer in use and I do not have any other means, but I need to log into the partner account. What's the work around here?

2023-12-11T14:30:04.1233333+00:00 So is the only solution asking the admins of the uni/work department to bypass the 2 step verification? My university uses Canvas as the resource/communication portal and it relies on logging in using your Microsoft work account, and as you've guessed authenticating using the Microsoft Authenticator app which I've been fighting over for, for the past couple of days!

2024-01-23T19:44:43.4966667+00:00 This has to be the dumbest problem I have seen with anything Microsoft I am trying to log in to the authenticator app on my phone and it is requesting a code form the authenticator app, a code I cannot get till I sign in. so 1 solution presented was to log in on the web portal and remove the device that is linked to you r account. When I try to login to the web portal, guess what? it wants a code form the authenticator app that I need a code from the authenticator app to log in to the authenticator app so I can get the code to login to the web portal so I can do my job I dont understand how this is even a problem with a multi billion dollar company that charges way too much for software that is some of the worst software I have ever used. I have never had a problem, this stupid with any free software I ever used

2024-02-07T20:54:34.17+00:00 How do you login to the account in order to change the verification settings? When it insists its going to send a code somewhere so you are able to sign in? I have the password and everything, but the code goes nowhere. This is ridiculous. I've been on with Microsoft for 4 hours today and 2 hours yesterday and I still haven't been able to reach anyone to help!

After this the MS authenticator started to do this bothering problem of a insane loop. Try to talk to someone at MS is the worst thing you can do. Apple answers you immediately and give you a solution in minutes. what can we do withouth the specialized tech of MS? Anyone can provide a solution?

2024-03-26T20:40:30.8666667+00:00 Guys. It is an abuse situation that microsoft does with business accounts
when you lost microsoft authenticator connection, if I may say this way, but beleive the only way to solve your problem is getting the phone number of microsoft business group 0800 at your region and registering an order asking help. Microsoft authenticator is a safety app and they need to confirm you and your account by checking details of your account. Be prepared to answer your email, pin codes and other details. After that they release your new microsoft Authenticator to run normally.

2024-04-23T17:56:28.2+00:00 This is still an issue, and it's completely ridiculous. Either let users use an authenticator that functions correctly or fix your software; this is beyond unreasonable. My phone is not connected to my Microsoft account at all, so I can't even remove it from the MS Authenticator to re-add it. It's absurd that this is even a problem. Who on Earth thought designing an authenticator app that requested its own authentication codes to even sign in was a good idea?

2024-04-24T14:53:24.9233333+00:00 I had the same exact problem. I tried downloading again the App, but obviusly I needed to log in, and it was asking the code from itself. The only thing that worked for me was to call to my instituion and they fix it in a second.

2024-06-17T17:18:49.34+00:00 I just had this - solution was to go into entra and add text authentication to the user, so they can authenticate the authenticator with a text. Once the authenticator is happy you can delete the text number as an option from the users account. Also, Microsoft - SOLVE THIS

2024-06-27T16:38:20.27+00:00 Had the same issue. Being able to use text authentication worked for me but I had to go through the sign-in process twice (using the text method both times) to get back in to the authenticator app.

2024-07-02T14:14:02.04+00:00 I had the same problem. I contact my company's IT help desk. The problem was that that they had to re-authorize the Authenticator app for new phone. Once they did that, I was able to log onto Outlook, my IT folks sent me a QR code to scan, and when Authenticator asked me to enter the two-digit number it popped up on the screen. No more than 5-minutes. So it sounds like the issue is resolved by re-authorizing Authenticator on the new phone.

2024-07-07T10:46:23.0633333+00:00 I had the same problem and to solve it you just call Microsoft and ask to restore it. This is the only way to solve the problem. Do not waist time with any other solution. The agent is the only person that can restore it.

2024-10-03T14:52:38.5633333+00:00 I have a similar problem - only difference is that I created a work account by accident (or by ignorance more like it) when I tried to create a personal profile and so I am the administrator. I now have a conflict with multiple accounts and I need to delete the work account. When setting up the authenticator for the personal account I somehow managed to remove the work account. Now I cant access my organisation on line since it wants a code from the authenticator. I cant add my profile to the authenticator since it wants a code from the authenticator..... Asking it to use a different access method simply asks for another code from the authenticator..... Absolutely ridiculous! Please can someone help me by pointing me to the contact details for a relevant microsoft agent...... I dont know where to start looking...

2024-11-15T08:40:44.2333333+00:00 The way I got around this was to add a Mobile number verification to the related account. This allowed a code to be sent to my mobile number and then verified the account.

2024-12-03T15:07:15.76+00:00 I found the solution, go to: www.microsoft365.com, then right top corner you will see you picture, click on "view my account", then click on "security info". Make sure you removed your account from the authenticator app. On the security info remove your current device, then click add sing in method > Authenticator > then it will prompt you a QR code, scan it via the authenticator app, and will sync right away.
Hope it helps, as it did for me.

2024-04-30T14:19:45.66+00:00 I had the same problem when migrating to a new corporate Phone. The solution for me was to go to https://login.microsoftonline.com/ then REMOVE the 2 factor authentication. ADD it back again. Then remove the Authenticator app from the phone, and install it again. This worked.

2024-10-09T12:27:28.6633333+00:00 I JUST did this with my IT rep:
- go to office.com to login
- It will say more information required
- keep clicking 'Next' until you get a QR Code (YES!)
- Add a new account in the Authenticator App and use the QR to validate
- There might be a couple ways here in the App to sign in using the QR code, but really, getting the code itself was the battle for me.
- Now go have a coffee and unload that stress! Cheers!

2024-10-11T11:47:43.17+00:00 Also, mine was a work/organization account. I tried to login to the regular microsft site, needed the app to authenticate, but the office.com one, it didn't ask me to authenticate. It didn't let me log in, but it displayed the "more information required" prompt. And there was a few Next buttons to hit, and then there it was.
I suppose you could try a few different of the office, one, note, 365, microsoft main site to attempt logging in to see if you get this. Also, maybe going Incognito might help across those sites as well - as in, try it in two phases. First using your browser as normal with them, then try them again but in incognito mode in Chrome...
I hope you can find a path to the elusive QR code and then take a break :)
