As of late last week, you can officially use exam 70-621 (upgrading from MCDST to MCITP) in place of 70-620 (Vista Configuring) anywhere it is allowed in a certification track. If you do not know what I’m talking about, then you do not care about this—don’t stress yourself out.

 

You can tell it is official, now, because we posted it to our web sites (see note in “Credit toward certification” sections, on prep guides linked below) and I’m told is reflected in your transcripts, etc. as of Friday morning. The gist, per this old post, is that 70-621 earns MCTS: Vista—and as such you should be able to use 70-621 to fulfill a 70-620 or MCTS: Vista requirement in another certification track. Spread the word to your MCDST peers and peerlets.

Customers who have taken both of these will be getting an e-mail from Microsoft Learning sometime this week, explaining the situation.

 

Speaking of things that can be used as other things, I’d like to point out the cert merchandise featured in this month’s MCP newsletter: an MCSE-branded Speaker Vase.

Vase Speaker

As it turns out, it is just speakers shaped like a vase. I guess. But I spent a bit of time staring at it, wondering about the use for speakers that are also a vase, and thinking that it would be difficult to top for efficiency. 

 

Unless we are talking about an MCSD-logo sweater, that can also be used as a white board, or a chain-saw, or something.

    so why not 622? why oh why does an administrator NOT need to care about deployment and security? Instead the weany 620 is enough client knowledge?

    I hope Microsoft will not only explain why, but also will offer compensation for those who took both exames,... That would be nice, I think. As a matter of facts,.. MS don't have to bother bying me flowers, I will by them myself. I only need a "MCSE-branded Speaker Vase" to put the flowers in ,.. ;-)

    Ack... if only they've told this a month earlier (i mean the 620/621 thing, not the vase... I haven't figured out what's the point of that one).

    I don't have MCDST credential, but I am MCSE&MCSA:2003, passed 649 and persue to upgrade to both MCITP: Enterprise and Server admin. I can take 70-621 as an elective exam now but, if I pass 70-621 do I get the MCTS: Windows Vista-Configuration only?

    Hi, Xavier. If you are not MCDST and you take 70-621, you will not get anything. That is an upgrade exam that only works for MCDSTs. You will have to take 620 or 624 for your MCITP: Enterprise Administrator. OR... you can earn your MCDST (271 and 272) and then take 621 :-)

    I'm mcdst and I passed the mcts 70-620. So, now an i mcitp ?

    Cesare, you are now an MCTS.. Exam 621 is the upgrade for MCDST to MCITP Enterprise Support Technician (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-621.mspx) To get your MCITP Enterprise Support Tech you will need to do exam number 70-622
