How to connect Microsoft OneNote 2007 to CRM systems
My colleague Rachel just returned from a business trip in Europe, where she was talking to our field, customers, and partners about Microsoft Groove 2007 and Microsoft OneNote 2007. Knowing she had a long plane ride ahead of her, I asked her to share some thoughts on OneNote that would be of interest to this collab-focused blog audience. Here’s what she had to say:
While this is the Groove advisor, as many of you may know Groove is sold not only as a product but as part of our premium, collaboration focused suites, Office Enterprise and Office Ultimate. Besides adding Groove to the mix, these suites also include OneNote 2007, which is a tool to manage information for individuals and teams – often in an even more unstructured state than what people work with in Groove. It’s often described as a digital notebook, but unlike Word or notepad, it focuses much more on capturing rich media, enabling easy organization and search, and seamless collaboration with teams. (Shameless promotion: find trial here)
Anyway, why am I telling you this, besides that this tool may interest you?Well, in addition to being a great out of the box tool, OneNote has an extensibility model that enables developers to integrate OneNote with other systems. One of the top requests we get is to integrate OneNote with CRM systems. Using OneNote, salespeople can capture rich notes about their customers, including images or audio or video recordings of meetings, even when they’re offline and can’t access CRM. But by integrating with CRM, with just a couple clicks, these employees can make sure the notes are stored where they belong, and accessible by other members of their team.
After hearing this request, a member of the OneNote team built a PowerToy to integrate with Microsoft Dynamics CRM as a proof of concept, and we’ve recently released a whitepaper, the PowerToy, and source code.
We're interested in your feedback on the paper and tools! Drop me a note or add a comment to let me know what else you need.
