Add comments to Microsoft Q&A

Comments are brief messages that anybody can use for the following scenarios:

  • Clarify a question, answer, or comment or add more information.
  • Share tips on how the user might research the answer to their question.
  • Suggest ways to improve the question or answer.
  • Follow up with customers on abandoned threads.
  • Redirect customers to a different site. Be sure to always provide the proper context when linking to information on sites outside of Microsoft Q&A.
  • Comments should be short and to the point.

Prerequisites

You need to be signed in Q&A.

Limitations

  • You can add a comment only for a question or an answer.
  • The comments editor for answers is hidden by default. Select the bubble icon to show it.

Limitations when mentioning a user:

  • Typing a comma will stop searching for the user.
  • There might be a delay since a user creates a profile in Microsoft Learn until you can mention. If you cannot find the user and this is their first question, try again in a few minutes.

Add a comment

  1. From the Questions page, select any question you would like to add a comment to.
  2. Enter text on the "Add a comment" text box for a question or an answer.
  3. Make sure you mention the question author or any other relevant users.
  4. Select the "Add comment" button.
  5. You will see the comment you're posted as the last one, as comments are sorted from oldest to newest.

Attachments

Use the rich-web editor to enter the details of your question. Avoid including images from the web as certain domains will be blocked and eventually the images might not be available. Use attachments to illustrate your point.

Mention a user

Mention question authors on a comment help them know that you might need more information about their question. You can also mention other users to seek their input, for example. If they have their mail notifications enabled, they will get a message.

  1. In the rich-web editor, type @.
  2. Start typing the user's name.
  3. When you find a match, press ENTER or select the name.

Note

The list of users matching is 30. You will see first the list of display names that matches the start the string you type, in alphabetical order. The list is followed by matches that contain the display name you're typing, as well sorted in alphabetical order.
