Change power management settings for a device

To change power management settings for a device

Open Device Manager.
Double-click the type of device for which you want to change power management settings.
Right-click the specific device you want, and then click Properties.
On the Power Management tab, change the power management settings.

Notes

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.
To open Device Manager, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, and then click Device Manager.
You can use the power management settings to specify that the operating system return from a low-power state to service an event. One example of the effect of doing so is that an incoming modem call will alert the system to service the call even if the system is in hibernation. You can also specify whether the operating system should turn off a particular device if it is not doing something, such as servicing a call.
The Power Management tab appears only for device drivers that support the power management standards, such as network adapters.
