Save log or alert settings as an HTML page

To save log or alert settings as an HTML page

Open Performance.
Create a log or an alert.
In the details pane, right-click the name of the log or the alert and click Save Settings As. By default, the settings are saved in the user's personal default directory; this is typically My Documents.

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group, or the Performance Log Users group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure. For more information, see Default local groups, Default groups, and Using Run as.
To open Performance, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Performance.
As a security precaution, the RunAs user name and password are not copied to the HTML file when you save a log or alert configuration to it.
A second security feature is that you can use this HTML settings file to create a new log or alert, not to modify the settings of an existing log or alert. In the existing log or alert file, right-click the details pane, and click New Log Settings From or New Alert Settings From. This is an easy way to generate log settings from an alert configuration.
For counter logs and alerts, you can open the HTML page in a browser, displaying a System Monitor object. The System Monitor object will specify the current log file as the data source.

Or, you can drag the HTML file and drop it on a System Monitor object. In this case, the counters specified in the HTML file will be added to the System Monitor display.
