Checklist: Installing a DHCP Service resource

Step Reference

Server Cluster Resources

Review resource groups and resource dependencies.

Server Cluster groups

Review the concepts behind Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

DHCP

Plan common resource settings.

Checklist: Creating a new resource

Configure location of DHCP database and backup of database files.

DHCP Service and WINS Service resource types

If you already use DHCP, and you want to retain your existing DHCP database files, move the files to the new DHCP database before bringing the new DHCP server online.

Backing up the DHCP database

Make certain that you install the DHCP Service on all nodes.

Install a DHCP server

Use the New Resource Wizard to create the resource.

Important

  • When you create a DHCP Service resource on a node, the Cluster service sets the startup type for the DHCP service on that node to Manual. The Cluster service also stops the DHCP service on all the other nodes, but, on those nodes not hosting the DHCP Service resource, the Cluster service leaves the DHCP service startup type set to Automatic. This DHCP service startup type will be set to Manual on any of the other nodes only when the DHCP Service resource fails over. In addition, if you subsequently evict a node from the cluster, the DHCP service will not be restarted on that evicted node.
