Add an Operating System Image

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008

To use an operating system image for deployment, you must first add it to the image store on the head node. You can create a new operating system image from Windows Server 2008 installation media, or from an installation point available on the head node or on the network. You can also add an existing image file, if it is available in the Windows Image Media (WIM) file format.

For information about using HPC Cluster Manager, see Overview of HPC Cluster Manager.

To add an operating system image to the image store

  1. In Configuration, in the Navigation Pane, click To-do List.

  2. In the To-do List, click Add an operating system image. The Add Operating System Image dialog box appears.

  3. If you want to create a new image and add it to the image store:

    1. Click Create a new operating system image.

    2. Type or browse to the location of the operating system installation files. This location can be a DVD containing the operating system installation, a local folder, or a network installation point where the files are located.

    3. Type a name for the image.

    4. To create the image, click OK.

  4. If you have an existing image file that you want to add to the image store:

    1. Click Load an existing operating system image.

    2. Type or browse to the location of the existing WIM image file.
