若要建立可在 SQL Server 中安裝的使用者定義型別 (UDT),您必須先以其中一種受支援的 .NET Framework 程式語言 (例如 Visual C# 或 Visual Basic),建立符合建立 UDT 之規格的類別。然後,您就可以將此類別編譯為可載入 SQL Server 中的動態連結程式庫 (DLL)。您也可以使用 Visual Studio 來建立和部署 UDT。
在 SQL Server 中,執行 Common Language Runtime (CLR) 程式碼的功能預設為 OFF。不過,您可以使用 sp_configure 系統預存程序來啟用 CLR,如下列 Transact-SQL 陳述式所示:
