Description

The Add-DhcpServerv4MulticastScope cmdlet adds a multicast scope on the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server.

Examples

Example 1: Add an inactive multicast scope

PS C:\> Add-DhcpServerv4MulticastScope -ComputerName "DhcpServer01.Contoso.com" -Name "Multicast_AudioConference" -StartRange 224.0.0.0 -EndRange 224.0.0.30 -State Inactive -Ttl 20-LeaseDuration 20

This command creates an inactive multicast scope named Multicast_AudioConference on the DHCP server named DhcpServer01.Contoso.com. The command specifies the lease duration of 20 days for allocating addresses to participants of audio conferences. You can allocate a single multicast address to multiple clients. The command specifies that the traffic passes through 20 routers.

Example 2: Add an active multicast scope

PS C:\> Add-DhcpServerv4MulticastScope -ComputerName "DhcpServer01.Contoso.com" -Name "Multicast_VideoConference" -StartRange 224.0.0.50 -EndRange 224.0.0.80

This command creates an active multicast scope named Multicast_AudioConference on the DHCP server named DhcpServer01.Contoso.com. You can use the multicast scope on the DHCP server service for allocating addresses to participants of video conferences. You can allocate a single multicast address to multiple clients. The traffic passes through 32 routers, and the lease duration is 30 days.

Parameters

-AsJob

Runs the cmdlet as a background job. Use this parameter to run commands that take a long time to complete. The cmdlet immediately returns an object that represents the job and then displays the command prompt. You can continue to work in the session while the job completes. To manage the job, use the *-Job cmdlets. To get the job results, use the Receive-Job cmdlet. For more information about Windows PowerShell® background jobs, see about_Jobs.
