Storage dimension groups (form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Product information management > Setup > Dimension groups > Storage dimension groups.

Use this form to set up storage dimension groups. The storage dimensions can help you control how items are stored and taken from inventory.

The following table provides descriptions for the controls in this form.

The tabs and controls that were added to this form for the Warehouse management features in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 are not described in this topic. For information about these features, see Warehouse management.

Fields

Fields

Description

Name

Identification of the storage dimension group.

Description

Descriptive name for the storage dimension group.

Mandatory

Select this check box if you want to have the Warehouse dimension as a mandatory dimension for items that are associated with the dimension group.

Tip

The Site dimension is always mandatory. However, the Location and the Pallet ID dimensions cannot be set to mandatory.

Primary stocking

Select this check box to define the Warehouse dimension as the primary dimension for items that are associated with the dimension group.

If the Warehouse dimension is specified as a primary dimension, this dimension is always locked when items are reserved. It cannot be unlocked. For more information, see Change the reservation on a single order.

Active

Select this check box to define the dimension as an active dimension for the dimension group.

Blank receipt allowed

Select this check box to define that the dimension does not have to be specified when physical receipts are updated. This functionality is useful if, for example, you do not want to specify the serial or lot number upon input but you do want to do so for picking and output.

Note

This option only applies, if the Primary stocking check box is not selected.

Blank issue allowed

Select this check box to define that the dimension does not have to be specified when physical issues are updated.

Note

This option only applies, if the Primary stocking check box is not selected.

Physical inventory

If this check box is selected, items that are assigned to this dimension group are tracked physically at this dimension level.

Note

Transactions that are generated to track physical transfers are also included in cost. A non-financial transfer is a transfer between two inventory dimensions that is not financially tracked.

Note

If items are tracked physically, a limitation for negative inventory has to be observed. By using the Physical negative inventory check box in the Item model groups form, you can enable negative inventory for items that are associated with the item model group. If negative inventory is not enabled, and an item with this dimension is tracked physically, the item must be available physically to process transactions on the item.

Financial inventory

If this check box is selected, items that are assigned to this dimension group are included in cost calculations at this dimension level. For more information, see Track running average cost per inventory dimension.

Coverage plan by dimension

Select this check box to include the dimension when you create a coverage plan for a product.

Tip

Select a product in the Released product details form, and then click Item coverage on the Plan tab to create a coverage plan for a product.

For purchase prices

Select this check box if you want to include the dimension as a criterion to determine the purchase price for an item. In the Journal lines, price/discount agreement form, you can create a trade agreement where you associate a purchase price with a specific dimension setup for an item.

Note

A dimension must be active in order to be available in a trade agreement setup. Select the Active check box in this form to enable a dimension.

For sales prices

Select this check box if you want to include the dimension as a criterion to determine the sales price for an item. In the Journal lines, price/discount agreement form, you can create a trade agreement where you can associate a sales price with a dimension setup for an item.

Note

A dimension must be active in order to be available in a trade agreement setup. Select the Active check box in this form to enable a dimension.
