March 2009 Security Bulletin Advanced Notification
Just a heads up that the good folks over on the Microsoft Security Response Center blog just posted their Advance Notification for next week’s bulletin release, scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, 2009 around 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
As part of this month’s security bulletin release process, it looks like they’ll issue three security bulletins – one rated ‘Critical’ and two rated ‘Important’ – to address vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows. Depending on the bulletin, a restart may be required. The updates will be detectable using the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer.

Utilizing WSUS 3 wSP1 using in a 2800 user environment. WIndows 2003 servers all XP clients. WSUS is set to auto-install and reboot automatically at Wed 2:00AM. Using GPO for entire enterprise. I have it set to prompt 5 minutes before reboot. Users that have left their computer off during this time window get the updates installed upon turning on their computer the next morning as expected. The problem is that after the updates finish installing, they get a quick Balloon in the task try just before the reboot. I do not have configured, nor want, my users to be able to decline the autorestart but would like a little more than a small balloon in the task tray prior to it closing all their open apps and rebooting. Any advise ? - Anonymous
