New computer on the way

New computer on the way, woo hoo! That's the good news. Unfortunately, it's coming in pieces. My friend Curtis has agreed to put it together, but I'm guessing (based on past experience) that means that he sits there and tells me what to do.

Aside: Curtis is suffering from some delusion that my having put something together gives me a useful skill - he should know by now that I'm *always* going to ask him because, well, it's easier than doing it myself ;-) Besides, I'm having a hard time imagining that learning to install a CPU on a motherboard (using the heat sink that Kent didn't need for his 'puter) is going to be very marketable, OR be something that I'm going to remember next time I have the “opportunity” to do so.

Still, it's going to be a rockin' cool computer, at least for me, and you can tell I'm somewhat of a geek because knowing that I would probably have to put it together (even with coaching) didn't send me running off to buy a fully assembled model!

You'd be surprised how much you can charge your neighbors for physical repair and maintenance services on their computers.

In any case, it's really not rocket science - there are a finite number of places most stuff fits - usually one, and when you have a choice, it usually doesn't matter.
