Camping in the San Juans
I've been to SeaWorld once or twice in my life, and I've seen giant killer whales do jumps in the water. It was a lovely experience, but it couldn't hold a candle to seeing that in real life, which I did yesterday. Not once, but twice, I saw a giant Orca leap out of the water, turn his white belly towards me and flop back in, making a gigantic splash. It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my entire life. I didn't get a picture (I made the smart choice to focus on experiencing it directly rather than through the viewfinder), but this is basically what I saw:
Breathtaking. Simply breathtaking. Overall it was a wonderful experience, especially if you happen to have a friend with a boat (we only happened to go whale watching because we passed a bunch of whale watching tours and said hey, let's stop here for a while). I camped on Jones Island on a wonderful secluded spot overlooking the water, which I also highly recommend:
I love the Pacific Northwest.
