Fujitsu Launches Global Cloud Platform Service Powered By Windows Azure

Today, Fujitsu and Microsoft announced the upcoming August 2011 availability of the Fujitsu Global Cloud Platform service, which marks the first official production release of a Windows Azure platform appliance delivered by Fujitsu. The new service offering has already been running in Fujitsu’s datacenter and available on a trial basis to companies since April 21, 2011.

Some of the benefits highlighted in the announcement include enabling customers to quickly build elastically-scalable applications using familiar Windows Azure platform technologies, and the ability to store their business data domestically in Japan if they prefer, which can help address compliance issues and also minimize the time accessing data due to network latency. Fujitsu datacenters utilize some of the most advanced technologies in the industry to offer cutting-edge disaster-readiness, security and environmental friendliness.

The service offering will be available globally, and will be geared towards a wide range of customers, from leading enterprises to value-oriented small and medium-sized companies. Building on a core platform of Windows Azure compute and storage, SQL Azure, and Windows Azure AppFabric technologies, the new service will also help customers with the development of new applications and the migration of existing applications.

Full details of the announcement are available in the official press release and on the Windows Azure blog. If you’re looking for more information on Microsoft’s cloud computing offerings for businesses, check out the Cloud Power site
