Display names appear as email addresses in cloud when sent from on premise
SYMPTOMS
Cloud users receive emails from their colleagues on premise. The display name is shown as an email address instead of their display name.
CAUSE
The key point in any Hybrid Setup is that the Exchange 2010 Server has a direct connection to the Office 365 environment (FOPE) via a secure transport link (TLS). It is this direct connection that ultimately binds the on-premise Exchange environment and Office 365 into one hybrid messaging system.
RESOLUTION
The link below discusses this setup for Exchange 2010 to Office 365 in detail

The links below tie into this and further discusses the considerations needed when Exchange 2007 and 2003 are in the loop. Ultimately it’s the TLS connection between the Exchange 2010 Hybrid Server and Office 365 (FOPE) that provides the rich messaging coexistence and enables the on-premise system and Office 365 both become part of the same “internal” hybrid environment.

You will ultimately have to setup a direct TLS connection between your Exchange 2010 Hybrid Server and office 365 in order to get seamless messaging between the two.
