About us!
Katherine is a recent graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in Computer Science. In school, Katherine was active in AOE, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and with the gaming club. She also interned at VeriSign while in school. Originally from northern Virginia, Katherine is now living in San Francisco.
Christine is a recent graduate of Marquette University with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Christine has been an active Girl Scout since kindergarten, and has always been interested in robots. In school Christine interned with Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Microsoft, and Tesla Motors.
Katherine and Christine are both technical evangelists with Microsoft, meaning they help secure the future of the platform (windows 8, windows phone, windows azure) through enabling developers to build and maintain quality apps.
Agenda. Self-explanatory.
When you go to build you app you need a full toolbox first. Very similar to my blog post earlier about your toolbox, but I’ll go over them quickly.
DreamSpark | Students can get access to premium products for free!! Visual studio ultimate, windows 8 for FREE :D |
BizSpark | Building an app, and plan to monetize it? Sign up for BizSpark. |
App Builder | If you build a windows 8 app, you can get cool prizes. All you have to do is sign up. If you’re already building an app, why not use it to get you free stuff? |
Azure | Azure is Microsoft’s cloud offering. With Azure you can build websites, handle 3rd party authentication for your app (Andriod, iOS & Windows), and use it for cloud storage. |
Windows 8/8.1 (General Downloads) | On this website, you can download Visual Studio, Windows 8, and the Windows SDK for FREE. You will need these before starting to build your app. |
Microsoft Developer Network | On the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN), you can learn anything and everything about all the Microsoft products. Tutorials, examples, and documentation live here. |
Microsoft Virtual Academy | The Microsoft Virtual Academy, is like Coursera or Kahn Academy for Microsoft products and development. Take a few day or week course to learn how to build apps, learn a programming language, or build a database. |
Local Support | Are you stuck? Can’t find the resource you need? We’re here to help. Feel free to reach out to any of the Technical Evangelists, and we’ll do our best to help you. |
