  Sadly, I feel that this really only scratches the surface of software deployment "through the back door" as it were.  Every time I install Acrobat reader from Adobe, I have to take extra care to remove the "free" Yahoo toolbar add in, the same goes for Nero burning ROM and Ask.  Why oh why?  If I had a £/$ for every time a friend asked me why their browser had changed etc...  I think credit where credit's due here, at least this update provides more information as a starting point and doesn't by default just bundle stuff out there unnecessarily.  However, I'd happily recommend that anyone evaluates the Open Office suite against the 2007 Microsoft Office system.  Technologies like SharePoint have been game changing in the productivity arena highlighting the value of server side integration.  As for the desktop...anyone use Outlook?  As far as I can see, there's no such alternative in Open Office.

  Even IBM are trying this.  Get Lotus Notes 8 and get free Lotus Productivity suite (aka OpenOffice).  Or if you prefer download free, Lotus Symphony (aka OpenOffice). Do you think someone is trying to flood the world with crapware?

  a contradiction in terms, citing one article.. nice one. really huge amount of food for though here. perhaps a comment on the hundreds of other vendors that practice this type of bundling would have been more pertinent, or more likely i missed the point of your post entirely.
