Before you’re tempted to install this, maybe consider the following...
Read this for a business perspective which can help understand the “productivity software” claims, for sure a contradiction in terms!!!
Microsoft Office Word 2007 and OpenOffice.org 2.2.0 Mail Merge Comparison
"I was recently employed part time by a charity which uses OpenOffice. A longtime Microsoft Word, etc., user...Mailmerge!! It only took you fifty minutes! Congratulations. It's taken me hours and hours of puzzling to the point of neurosis and I'm no nearer success."
And from a consumer perspective, would you open the door to anyone and let them in without checking first?
Proof-of-concept virus gives insight into OpenOffice.org security failings
"...it exhibits some unusual properties that provide insight into the security failings of OpenOffice and reveal attack vectors that could potentially be used in the future. The most notable aspect of the BadBunny virus is its cross-platform nature. It can successfully infect Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux systems and is capable of propagating itself on both Windows and Linux."
Oh, and the Google toolbar is bundled in the installation also... The Windows Live toolbar for comparison is available here.

Sadly, I feel that this really only scratches the surface of software deployment "through the back door" as it were. Every time I install Acrobat reader from Adobe, I have to take extra care to remove the "free" Yahoo toolbar add in, the same goes for Nero burning ROM and Ask. Why oh why? If I had a £/$ for every time a friend asked me why their browser had changed etc... I think credit where credit's due here, at least this update provides more information as a starting point and doesn't by default just bundle stuff out there unnecessarily. However, I'd happily recommend that anyone evaluates the Open Office suite against the 2007 Microsoft Office system. Technologies like SharePoint have been game changing in the productivity arena highlighting the value of server side integration. As for the desktop...anyone use Outlook? As far as I can see, there's no such alternative in Open Office.Anonymous

Even IBM are trying this. Get Lotus Notes 8 and get free Lotus Productivity suite (aka OpenOffice). Or if you prefer download free, Lotus Symphony (aka OpenOffice). Do you think someone is trying to flood the world with crapware?Anonymous

a contradiction in terms, citing one article.. nice one. really huge amount of food for though here. perhaps a comment on the hundreds of other vendors that practice this type of bundling would have been more pertinent, or more likely i missed the point of your post entirely.
