Microsoft Open Tech と Azul Systems が提携、Windows Azure 向け OpenJDK ベースの Windows ディストリビューションの提供を発表

Microsoft Open Technologies Inc. と Azul Systems は提携を発表し、Windows Azure 向けに オープンソースの Java 実装である OpenJDK の Windows ディストリビューションを公開する予定であることをアナウンスしました。

この提携により、Azul Systems が Windows Azure 上で稼働する Windows Server 環境で利用できる、Java SE 仕様に準拠した OpenJDK をベースとするディストリビューションを構築、認定、公開することになります。この OpenJDK ベースのディストリビューションは、クラスパス例外(Classpath Exception) を含む GPLv2 (GNU General Public License Version2) ライセンスで無料公開されます。

これにより、Windows Azure 上で既存または新規の Java および オープンソースのアプリケーションを Windows Azure 上で利用できることになります。

公開は 2013 年末が予定されており、OpenJDK 7 ベース、Windows Azure で稼働する Windows Server 2012 / Windows Server 2008 R2 に対応、Windows Azure Plugin for Ecipse with Java にも統合されます。
