Hello,Gary.Li
There are some real differences between choosing to “shut down and then boot up” and “just reboot”:
- Windows 10 and Windows 11 have fast startup enabled by default, which means that when you choose to shut down, the system doesn't actually shut down completely, but rather saves some of the system state to your hard drive for faster startup the next time you boot.1 Therefore, choosing to “Shut down and then boot up” may not completely refresh the system state. Therefore, selecting “Power Off and Power On” may not completely refresh the system state.
- Selecting “Direct Reboot” during the update installation process will start installing the update immediately and complete the update process after reboot. Selecting “Shutdown and Reboot” may partially start the update when you shut down your computer, but continue to complete the update the next time you turn on your computer.
