Sc stop

Sends a STOP control request to a service.

Warning

Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data on the computer.

Syntax

sc [<ServerName>] stop <ServiceName>

Parameters

Parameter

Description

<ServerName>

Specifies the name of the remote server on which the service is located. The name must use the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format (for example, \\myserver). To run SC.exe locally, omit this parameter.

<ServiceName>

Specifies the service name returned by the getkeyname operation.

/?

Displays help at the command prompt.

Remarks

Not all services can be stopped.

Examples

To stop the TAPISRV service, type:

sc stop tapisrv
