Let Me Test and Dev on Azure at Reasonable Cost

I’ve read a fair amount of requests for a “test/dev” account on Windows Azure and maybe SQL Azure.

The Developer Accelerator Offers may address some of those requests.

If you sign up for six months, you get Azure usage for test/dev purposes for around US$60 a month.

If you want to add SQL Azure to the mix, it’s around US$110 a month.

Looks like the Azure team is eager for you to check it all out – with over a 50% discount!

I believe most of those requesting "test/dev" accounts were seeking an account that accrued no charges until reaching a specific resource usage threshold, i.e., similar to the Google's original App Engine pricing. Others were seeking price parity with low-cost Web hosting services (e.g., $4.95 to $9.95 per month) for a personal blog or Web site, which is unrealistic for Windows Azure. Cheers, --rj
