Utility Spotlight: ADMX Migrator

If you use Group Policy, you’re probably familiar with the administrative templates used to configure operating system and application settings. But those familiar ADM files have changed in Windows Vista. Now they are ADMX files, and they XML-based. What to do?

No worries—the ADMX Migrator utility comes to the rescue. This free tool not only converts your legacy ADM files into ADMX, it also lets you create your own custom ADMX files using a graphical editor. If you want to simplify your transition from the old format to the new, read Lance Whitney’s February Utility Spotlight.

If you missed it, you'll also want to check out “Inside ADM and ADMX Templates for Group Policy” in our January issue, where Jeremy Moskowitz delves into these important files. And you’ll find more information in the Managing Group Policy ADMX Files Step-by-Step Guide.
