Live from DEC Europe 2007

Greetings all-

I'm spending a few days this week at DEC Europe 2007 - the Directory Experts Conference. The conference is run by NetPro, which I mention primarily because NetPro's CTO - Gil Kirkpatrick - is a regular writer for TechNet Magazine . Gil is here, along with a number of other Identity and Directory experts from Microsoft and a number of other companies to talk about a number of exciting advancements in the Identity & Access Management space.

Of course, the majority of the discussion going on here this week is around the major Idenitity & Access Management enhancements coming in Windows Server 2008. You've already heard us start to talk about features like the Read-Only Domain Controller, Server Core, Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), and more. That coverage will continue to pick up in the coming months as the release of Windows Server 2008 approaches. In fact, in one of our upcoming issues, Gil will give you an overview of all the major enhancements to Active Directory in this exciting new release of the Windows Server platform.

Identity provisioning and synchronization is an often overlooked, but critical aspect of any Idenity/Directory Services infrastructure. We spent much of our July 2006 issue devoted to this topic, discussing technologies like Microsoft Identity Integration Server (MIIS). The evolution of MIIS - known as Identity Lifecycle Manager (or ILM) - is also a major topic of discussion here at DEC, and another topic you'll see enhanced coverage of in TechNet Magazine in the coming months.

Do you have a particular Identity or Access Management topic you'd like to see us cover? If so, please let us know, and we'll make every effort to include it in our editorial plans. Comment here, or e-mail us anytime at tnmag@microsoft.com.

Best,

-Josh

PS - If you're here at DEC Europe 2007 as well, drop me a line at tnmag@microsoft.com. It'd be great to meet you in person!

I obviously have a tendency, when writing late at night and jet-lagged, to overuse the phrase "a number of" (count 'em - 3 times in the same sentence!) Further proof of the value that editors bring to the table, and why I shouldn't be allowed to publish anything without their prior approval :-)
