A Smart Approach to Gathering Data in the Enterprise

Data, is a good thing.  It is, after all, the key ingredient to business intelligence. But if your organization is like most, you are probably familiar with how difficult it can be to manage the array of information being gathered and stored throughout the infrastructure. Disparate groups use various gathering mechanisms, storage formats, analysis tools, and the like.

But did you know that with ASP.NET, SharePoint, and the 2007 Office system, you can build an integrated, standards-based solution.  In the February issue of TechNet Magazine , Keith Deshaies shows you how to build a centralized solution for gathering and storing data throughout the enterprise.  This approach makes it easier to share data across groups (as well as reuse data), it eases the burden on IT, it allows you to build efficient workflows, it can cut costs, and more.

If you want to learn more about building workflows for Windows SharePoint Server, there is a virtual lab available (TechNet Virtual Lab: Creating Workflows for Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0). And if you're specifically interested in building survey solutions for gathering and analyzing data, be sure to check out our article Building a Powerful Survey Infrastructure, which shows you how to use SharePoint to build a powerful survey infrastructure for your organization.
