If you are looking to start developing for Windows Mobile (or simply rebuilding a laptop), you will find that Visual Studio 2008 Professional or higher includes the Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK with .NET Compact Framework 2.0. Here is an additional list of items that I install in order to build out a Windows Mobile 6.x Development environment:
- Windows Mobile Device Center (or ActiveSync)
- 32 bit – Mobile Device Center (Vista or higher)
- 64 bit – Mobile Device Center (Vista or higher)
- ActiveSync (Windows XP)
- Windows Mobile 6 Standard SDK
- Windows Mobile 6 Pro SDK
- Windows Mobile 6.1.4 Standard Emulators
- Windows Mobile 6.1.4 Professional Emulators
- Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional Developer Toolkit
- Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard Developer Toolkit
- Power Toys for .NET Compact Framework 3.5
- SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1 for Windows Mobile
