New Grand Prize Winner

New Grand Prize Winner Anounced for 2007 Microsoft Future Pro Photo Competition

by Jeff Greene /

-Paul D.Van Hoy II of Rochester, New York has been declared the new Grand Prize winner of the 2007 Microsoft Future Pro Photographer Competition for his image “Apocalyptic Summer”.

This action was taken because the original Grand Prize winner, Zhang Minjie of China, was disqualified after it was discovered he was not the original photographer, or rights-holder, for the image he entered into the competition. This was a direct violation of the rules and, after a thorough review, Microsoft has disqualified his entry. As a result, he forfeits all prizes and awards. The image he submitted was actually the work of professional photographer Lai Yuning, also from China.

The revised list of winners include the following:

Svetlana Røyster of Oslo, Norway, is the new Fine Art category winner for her image “Inachevé”.

Sarah Wright won the First Prize in the People and Portrait category for her image "Femme Fatale"

.. and Yeo Chiou Ying took First Prize in Landscape & nature for "Dancing Dragonfly".

Microsoft respects the intellectual property rights of photographers and is pleased to have been able to resolve this situation and extends congratulations to Paul D. Van Hoy II on being named the Grand Prize winner.

The entire collection of winning images from the 2007 Microsoft Future Pro Photographer Competition are on display in the Gallery section of the Microsoft Pro Photo website (www.microsoft.com/prophoto).
