2007 Office release still on track for RTM in October
I don't like to just quote press statements on the blog but this seems to have caused some confusion and is worth clarifying.
Despite the rumours and Microsoft bashers jumping to conclusions, the 2007 Office release is still on track for RTM (release to manufacturers) in October.
In light of the decision to delay the retail and OEM release of Windows Vista though, we needed to talk to our channel partners about how this affects Office. In order to keep things simple and enable our channel to benefit from a joint launch, we have decided to stay in sync with Vista and push our retail and OEM release into January, alongside Windows Vista.
However two points on this:
- the development project is still on track. Our Beta 2 is on schedule for the spring and our RTM remains unchanged. This is a decision about launch timing not code readiness.
- Just like Vista, our volume licencing customers will still get 2007 Office just after RTM, meaning no change to customer deployments dependant on getting the code as scheduled.
We are very focussed on the beta 2 milestone now and I personally can't wait to get the code out there widely so you can see for yourselves what a radical release this is going to be.
