National Transport Data now in Bing

Bing Maps and National Transport Data

I am delighted to announce that Irish transport data is now integrated with Bing, meaning when you use Bing to get directions you can choose to see transport options for that journey. This is a fantastic example of local Microsoft staff working with the National Transport Authority to integrate the appropriate data feeds into Bing to make Bing search more relevant in Ireland.

As an example, I searched for directions from St. Stephen's Green to our sales office on Carmanhall road in Sandyford.

The results show all of my transport options including the number 11 bus as well as the green Luas line, so cool! I can also see this on the map and track exactly what route each option takes.

And, of course, I can see the exact directions and steps I need to take

Here Transit

If you are a Windows Phone user then you may have heard of Nokia Here Transit. It pulls it's data from the NTA services, and has done for a while now, so all of this works just as nicely on Here Transit.

I think this is a great example of the Bing team, Microsoft Ireland and NTA working together and there are plans to integrate even more local services like this into Bing soon.

Hi Niall, Just noticed, I wanted to get to bing maps. And there was no link on bing.com which could take me to bing.com/maps. I searched for maps on bing and it turned out to be google maps came first.
